The Role of Energy Storage in a Sustainable Future
Action Renewables have hosted Renewable Engine’s latest event, focusing on the role of Energy Storage within a greener energy mix. The event was held at the Centre for Renewable Energy & Sustainable Technologies (CREST) in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. The event gave an update on Renewable Engine progress with a focus on research involving the development of energy storage technologies. Members of SPIRE 2, another INTERREG VA funded project, were also on hand to give updates on their developments within energy storage and demand side management techniques.
A range of speakers from academia and industry included Eddie McGoldrick (The Electric Storage Co.), Dr John Harrison (South West College), Ronan Geraghty (ESB), Dominic McLarnon (Ulster University), Neil McIlwaine (Queen’s University Belfast) and David Surplus OBE (B9 Energy Storage).
The event was ran in conjunction with the Action Renewables Energy Association (AREA). AREA acts as the catalyst for transition to a renewable future and is the sole body representing the renewable energy sector in Northern Ireland. AREA has a vision for a Northern Ireland which has a thriving local economy; protected environment, fuel-price stability, energy security and sustainable jobs – powered by renewables.
